Recyclables
The Municipality of Otter Lake encourages all residents to recycle and help keep our community clean and green. Items such as paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and metal containers can be brought to the transfer station during regular hours.
Please make sure everything is rinsed and sorted properly before drop-off to ensure materials can be recycled efficiently.
Together, we can reduce waste and protect the beautiful environment that surrounds our lakes and forests.

Useful tips
-
Empty and lightly rinse out containers

Remove lids from jars and containers – except for small caps.
-
Separate different materials from the same container or packaging (i.e bag of cereals in a cereal box).
-
Undo and fold cardboard boxes so they take up less space.
-
Crush aluminum sheets into compact balls before placing them in the bin.
-
Protective polystyrene packaging (ex: styrofoam packaging) must be put in garbage
-
Aerosol must be put with the hazardous materials
-
A container comes with a cap or a lid. Packaging is used to easily transport a product.
-
Containers and packaging made of degradable plastic (eg. compostable plastic bags) should not be placed in the bin. They will contaminate all other recyclable materials.
Questions
-
Why did the accepted materials change in 2025?
Since January 1, 2025, recyclable materials have become the responsibility of a designated organization: Éco Entreprise Québec (ÉEQ). ÉEQ has standardized the materials accepted in the recycle bins across Quebec and no matter which city you're in, the message is the same: containers, packaging, and printed materials go in the blue bin. This is why foam trays and chip bags are now accepted in the blue bin.
-
What happens to the materials that are to be recycled?
Once collected recoverable materials, i.e. containers, packaging and printed materials (CPP), are sent to Tricentris in Gatineau to be sorted and, when possible, recycled or recovered.
